Removal of Machinery (ROM) & Lift and Escalator Refurbishment Works

Lift & Escalators are an essential part of the London Underground (LUL) Network and without them the system would cease to work efficiently.

As part of continual operations and upgrades London Underground require that their critical assets, including Lifts and Escalators, are regularly refurbished and/or replaced in a systematic manner.

The LUL Lifts and Escalators are normally heavy duty and often have locations which are deep beneath street level. Consequently the logistics of the removal can be very challenging. Therefore removing Lifts and Escalators within the underground network is generally considered to be high profile and high risk.

When it is necessary to replace a Lift or Escalator the main client naturally expects the project team to deliver the works safely, on budget, and on time. The time element is often crucial, due to the inconvenience to the travelling public and the potential loss of revenue to the client. Therefore although the main element of the works is often the new escalator, unless the enabling and removal works complete on schedule, the whole programme and final costs can be put in serious jeopardy. The careful selection of the enabling and ROM contractor is therefore critical to the overall success of any Lift or Escalator replacement project, particularly in terms of their capabilities, track record, safety, delivery and value for money.
